A Study on the Efficacy of the Support Program for Victims of Conglomerated Prostitution Focused on Exit from prostitution

Abstract

|
The study intended to investigate the efficacy of the support program for victims of conglomerated prostitution focused on exit from prostitution. 289 participants were analysed who had participated in the project program for survivers of prostitution in Wanwal-Dong in Busan funded by Ministry of Gender Equality(MOGE) for 3 years. The differences among exit rates from prostitution were analyzed according to their individual characteristics such as age, educational level, years of engagement, and entry age into prostitution and program characteristics such as kinds of support, numbers of support, and the period of participation. Also, the factors of exit were examined by using logistic regression analysis. As the result of the study, the rate of exit which showed the objective efficacy of the program was calculated as 66.8% being composed of employment 29.4%, study and marriage 19.7%, returning home 17.6% etc. The possibility of exit was not affected by their individual characteristics but by the program characteristics such as cash support, jurisdictional support, job training, and the period of participation. The participants were more likely to exit from prostitution when they were supported longer maintaining touched with the support center and provided more supports especially job training. According to the results of the study, the followings were suggested: changing the viewpoint of policies on victims of prostitution from criminal approach to advocacy and integration, and executing continuous support programs so they can choose other lives than prostitution.
